An amusing video has emerged of a rescue baby manatee struggling to eat a banana.

The footage, shot in 2016, shows the Antillean manatee trying to push the whole banana into its mouth with little success.

"This baby Antillean Manatee was found beached and it's now being rehabilitated until he is old enough to be released back into the wild," his carer wrote online.

"Part of insuring he is healthy is giving him nutritious food, which includes bananas, but he doesn't really know how to eat it, yet!"

"He tries to put it whole in his mouth, but then he doesn't know what to do with it, and tries to push it further it with his flipper," she added.
