Saudia B787-9 Dreamliner FLAP ISSUE and Fast Landing at Manchester Airport Runway 23L

This morning (Thursday 20th July) we awoke to find out that Saudia flight SV123 from Jeddah to Manchester was circling in the Dayne hold at Manchester, and had been for quite some time. Looking on radar we saw that the 787-9 aircraft (HZ-ARC) had been circling for just under 3 hours and we soon established that the flight had quite a serious issue. We immediately left for the airport, however we were only able to take an old camera due to one member being at work which means the quality of the video is lower, which we apologise for. The aircraft then left the hold around 12:30 and made an approach for 23L at Manchester. We established from other sources that the aircraft had a flap problem and that they had only been able to deploy half their flaps. This is quite a serious issue and it meant that the approach speed was much higher than normal. The aircraft had decided to circle and hold to burn off excess fuel to reduce weight seeing as it was going to be a fast landing and therefor requiring more runway. The aircraft landed on 23L at around 12:35 and was followed down the runway by emergency services who entered the runway. The 787-9 held for a short period at the end of 23L before turning and back tracking down the runway and then back to stand followed by emergency services. Although the landing was faster than normal the strong head winds this morning meant that this aided his approached speeds. In this video you will also see a clip of a Ryanair 737 going around which we think was caused by one of the emergency service vehicles still crossing runway 23R. Hats off to the crew for the landing they did as given the conditions of the approach they made an excellent of it. The aircraft is still on the ground at Manchester and we do not know when it will leave for its flight back to Jeddah.
