A pride of lions met with an unexpected resistance from a herd of cows at Rampar village in Amreli, Gujarat.

About 14 lions of a pride had entered the village looking for food.

A video caught on the CCTV camera of a house shows a few lions roaming the village streets. A lone cow enters the road and makes no attempt to flee. It stands close by and a lion can even be seen trying to dodge it.

In the next frame, about 3 to 4 cows can be seen galloping on the road and chasing the lions away.

Mayank Bhatt of Save Asiatic Lions Campaign said it was common for the lions in the Greater Gir forest to stray into nearby villages looking for food.

The cows had chased grown-up cubs and young adolescents, not adult lionesses, which had made their kill at a nearby location, he pointed out.

The cubs, defensive in an unfamiliar location, were easily scared by the herd.

The cow, which held its ground with the cubs, reportedly led the charge against the lions. The villagers say that the cow is used to the lions and can be sometimes seen grazing in their vicinity.

They also believe that for some reason the lions do not attack this cow, Mayank Bhatt.
