A terrifying video has emerged from China of female bungee jumper detaching mid-air from the cord and falling 20 metres into the water below.

In the footage, which was filmed in Beijing on August 18, the 17-year-old thrill-seeker performs the initial jump from the 55-metre platform successfully but as she bounces up and down, the bungee somehow detaches and she plunges about 20 metres into the water below.

Amazingly, the woman escaped with only minor injuries.

The accident was caused by human error, according to local reports.

According to local reports, the rope was tied on the woman's body when she falls into the water.

The accident was caused by the worker's mis-operation.

The woman was sent to hospital immediately and she was not injured severely.
