To mark International Talk Like a Pirate Day, here's video from the Newsflare archive of more than 14,000 pirates invading the English seaside town of Penzance in August in an effort to break the world record for the number of pirates in one place.

The current record of 14,231 is held by Hastings.

Buccaneers, Captain Jacks, and all manner of swashbucklers garb could be seen on the promenade.

Sadly the pirates failed to break the record but many said they were determined to try again next year.

More than 14,000 pirates visited the seaside town of Penzance on Sunday in an attempt to break the world record for the number of pirates in one place. The current record of 14,231 is held by Hastings and Penzance has previously held the record.

Buccaneers, Captain Jacks, and all manner of swashbuckling garb was worn by children, parents and grandparents alike. This day, though the sun shone brightly on the Prom, it didn't shine so brightly on the numbers, and Penzance fell just a few short.

Everyone had a great day out though, an, not to be put down, the town is determined to try again next year
