A bizarre video has emerged from Thailand of an attraction in which a young woman gets dunked into water by cheering tourists throwing tennis balls.

The footage, captured in Pattaya City last month, shows tourists aiming tennis balls at a target, which then releases the woman into a pool of cold water.

Each competitor pays 100 baht (2.30GBP) for five balls, and the woman is reportedly paid around £120 a month for the job.

The men working on the stall agreed to be filmed and said they had ''no problems'' with the girl working in the cage.

They told the filmer: ''It's just a job and good fun for tourists. She likes the doing this job.''

As tourists hurl the balls at the cage, the girl flinches and braces herself in preparation for the humiliating fall.

The bizarre attraction brings new shame on Pattaya, Thailand, which was dubbed the sex capital of the world earlier this year and is trying to clean up its image as a forward-thinking family holiday resort. The game has been open for around four months and has the girl's picture on posters on the cage. She's paid around £120 a month for the job.

Filmer Randolph Frost said: ''I felt so sorry for her. She flinched every time a ball was thrown. Sometimes she would smile but it looked force, like she was doing it to please customers. Sitting in a cage being dropped int water for the amusement of tourists just seems humiliating and degrading. If this was an animal sitting in the cage it would be cruelty so why is a human being doing it?''
