Burn Night at Burning Man 2017 in Black Rock City
Seventy thousand people gather in Black Rock City to watch The Man burn. The main event at the Burning Man 2017 festival drew art cars, fire spinners, dancers, revelers and more. The 2017 theme, Radical Ritual, was reflected in the temple-like structure that surrounded The Man, who was built at ground level for the first time in two decades. This video shows the big explosion that signaled the end for this year's effigy as well as the fireworks that preceded it. Much later, a 41-year-old man ran past guards, into the flames, eventually succumbing to his injuries.
