Vehicular collision with a kid on a bike (24/9/2017)
I've had a dash cam for years inside my vehicle. I always thought that it would be a great thing to have, in the occurrence of a collision or any other unusual event on the road.
It indeed came in handy last Sunday. At around 7pm (GMT -5 time), I was leaving my house to go to a local park. I pulled out from my parking spot and drove straight. As I was reaching the next street, a young kid riding bike came out flying from a parking lot. I hit the breaks as fast as I could, but unfortunately a hard-hitting collision still took place. I was really shocked as I had realized what had just happened.
Needless to say, I was shaking. Adrenaline took over my body. Police officers and paramedics were soon on-scene. Paramedics were taking care of the kid, while police officers took an official statement from me. They had told me that the scene of the accident told the whole story: my car had a short braking distance and the position of my car in relation to parking lot gave me no time to react. They actually mentioned that the video wasn't necessary. The kind officers sympathized with me.
The kid didn't have any major injuries, but was taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure. He might've had a minor concussion.
My own car, a 2015 Dodge Charger, had a couple of dents on the hood of the car. The left side of the wind shield was covered with cracks. The most important thing, though, is that the kid was alive and well.
Note: a longer version of the video can provided if requested.
The accident happened at 12280 Letellier Street, Montréal, Quebec, Canada H3M 3A1
