The quick reactions of a British coach driver saved a group of senior passengers from a crash on the M40 in this video from the Newsflare archive.

Driver Mike Helm was taking 47 members of the University of the Third Age (U3A) on the way back from a day out in Oxford in September 2017 when suddenly a Volkswagen hatchback lost control further up the road, struck the central reservation and spun directly into the coach's path.

Helm somehow managed to bring the coach to a complete stop with less than one foot between the two vehicles.

The passengers spontaneously applauded Helm's excellent driving, who was driving at 62mph.

The driver in the Volkswagen did not even apologise, according to Helm.

The near-miss took place near the Oxfordshire village of Tetsworth.
