Boeing 747 BIRDSTRIKE moments before touchdown at Manchester Airport

Buy video

On the morning of the 22nd July 2014 a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747-400 (747-443) Jumbo collided with a bird on final approach into Manchester International Airport (MAN/EGCC), UK.

I edited various replays into the video so you can see for yourself the birdstrike. The bird flew in from the left of the shot, across the nose of the aircraft and then into the slats on the front of the left wing. It hit the slat then quickly fell onto the runway. An airport vehicle holding short of the runway witnessed it and entered the runway behind the 747 to see if there was a bird on the runway and indeed there was. The dead bird was cleared up and normal runway operations continued within a few minutes. The 747 pilots informed their engineers and I don't believe there was any significant delay for the next flight of that aircraft.

This was filmed from the Aviation Viewing Park at Manchester on the 22nd July 2014.
