Video has emerged of a man proposing to his girlfriend during a short-haul flight from Vienna to Bologna.

In the video, filmed on April 13, a voice over the plane tannoy on the Austrian Airlines flight asks a certain female passenger to stand up - and it wasn’t for security reasons.

"From the first year we started dating, you only brought joy and happiness to my life," says Anatoly Balovnev. "And this proposal is just another one to share together. Let’s start a new journey together."

Explains Balovnev: "We really love to travel and spend a lot of time in the air. Therefore, the idea to propose in the air came to mind."

At the time of the proposal, the couple had been together two-and-a-half years.

The filmer writes later: "It was flight between Vienna and Bologna and it was quite short. So I had really limited time to make the proposal between the in-flight service (ending) and before the plane started landing, something like a 10-minute slot."

He adds: "It was a real surprise for my girlfriend. In advance I obtained the agreement of Austrian Airlines and they even secretly brought flowers on board for me.

"It was very exciting and I worried how the whole thing would work out. So many things could have gone wrong: the airline could have forgotten about my request, the plane could have shaken, there might not have been enough time."

At the moment of the video, we've been together for 2.5 years. We both work for UN and met at our work place, become friends and then started dating.
