This is the adorable moment a baby elephant couldn't stay on her feet and took a tumble while walking down a hill.

One-year-old Namped was taking her daily exercise while a mahout followed behind riding a adult male bull.

But the steep slope through mountains in Chiang Mai, Thailand, proved too much for her.

Namped began slipping and sliding as she tried to negotiate the monsoon-soaked grass then took a tumble, skidding trunk-first into the ground.

She rolled around on her back before clambering back onto her feet and shaking off her stumble.

The mahout captured the amusing scene while filming the walk from the animal behind at the Maesa Elephant Camp.

Kusala Arkarn, a manager at the elephant sanctuary, said:

''This was Namped's daily exercise, taking a walk through the forest.

''She was a little bit wobbly that day and fell over. She's lovely and sweet and she was fine.

''As she gets older she'll become stronger and won't be falling around like that any more.''
