Closeup video of newborn shark pups learning to swim

Buy video

Video filmed off the coast of South Australia showing newborn sharks apparently having their first-ever swim.

In the video, filmed off Kangaroo Island on October 9, a closeup underwater camera captures the shark pups' movements.

Explains the filmer: "I am a marine biologist researching shark movements and trying to find where they have their babies. We were at sea for two weeks off Kangaroo Island trying to catch pregnant females to tag with satellite tags to track where they go.

"We were looking for one species in particular but in an area with many different species. While on a break we noticed a large female shark swimming slowly beneath the boat, then saw these small pups swimming away so grabbed the camera."
