Bizarre footage has emerged from China of women walking in front of cars illegally driving along a motorway's hard shoulder to try to prevent CCTV from picking up the licence plates.

In CCTV video filmed in Dezhou City in eastern China's Shandong Province on October 19, women holding hands together to walk in front of the cars driving slowly in the emergency lane.

Vehicles had been stranded on the motorway due to heavy fog.

The two cars drove along the emergency lane to avoid the traffic.

Police were able to track down the drivers, fining them and deducting points on their licence.
