Terrifying video has emerged of climbers being submerged by an avalanche in Kyrgyzstan.

In the video, eight climbers are attempting their ascent of Lenin Peak when the avalanche completely submerges them. As the avalanche approaches the climbers, who can be seen scampering away in the distance, Lindkvist can be heard saying "Helvete, helvete! (Oh hell!)."

All eight - six from Germany and two from Switzerland, according to the filmer, Magnus Lindkvist from Sweden - survived, although they lost equipment in the avalanche.

Lindkvist captured the shocking footage from Base Camp 2, which is 5,300 meters above sea level, in July.

According to Lindkvist, the eight abandoned their ascent of Lenin Peak, which reaches 7,134m above sea level, and continued their journey at a lower altitude.

In a separate online post, Lindkvist and his team were climbing through the same spot where the avalanche had struck only 45 minutes earlier.

Previous attempts to conquer Lenin Peak have ended in tragedy. In 1990, an avalanche killed more than 40 climbers at Base Camp 2.

On July 16 2017, this avalanche swept over eight people at Lenin Peak (Pik Lenina) in Kyrgyzstan.

Fortunately, all eight survived without damage – and they only lost some equipment.

The video is captured from Camp 2, at 5300 meters above sea level, by Magnus Lindkvist from Sweden.

Six of the people in the avalanche came from Germany and two from Switzerland.

They cancelled their expedition and continued their journey at a lower altitude. Lenin Peak reaches 7134 meters above sea level.
