People in Thailand take part in the Loi Krathong festival following a year of mourning after after the death of the country's king.

The annual event sees baskets of flowers and candles released into the ocean, rivers and lakes to honour water spirits, which is believed to bring good luck.

Festivities have been toned down since October last year when the country's monarch King Bhumibol Adulyadej died aged 88.

But after a five-day state funeral, the country began to return to normal beginning with the Loi Krathong festival.

Footage from Jomtien Beach in coastal resort Pattaya shows families and tourists gathering on the beach tonight (Fri) to release the floating baskets of ornately arranged flowers.
