This group of 3 manatees were very curious about the canoe and spent about 30 minutes looking it over thoroughly.

Manatees are usually very friendly and curious and will often come up to canoers & kayakers, especially if you keep a respectful distance and let them come to you instead of paddling right up to them. A manatee can swim up to 20 mph. Although they are vegetarians, they are also known to eat fish scraps at fish cleaning stations in south Florida.
