The parents of a six-month-old baby that died after having breathing difficulties have spoken of their heartbreak outside the coroner’s court in Chelmsford, Essex.

Iris Ann Day died on December 2 last year after her parents rushed her to Colchester General Hospital’s A&E department when she started to have difficulties breathing.

An inquest was opened at Chelmsford Coroner’s Court.

Speaking outside the court today (November 14), father Ben Day spoke of how they were made to feel like "an annoyance" to the NHS.

According to local reports, Iris was born with Down syndrome and an atrio-ventricular septal defect, which was discovered when her mother Hannah was 36 weeks pregnant.

The inquest had previously heard that a potentially life-saving heart operation was delayed three times.

Asked how much she still misses Iris, mum Hannah said: "It's immeasurable."

According to local media, in a narrative conclusion the assistant coroner identified "failings in the care provided by Colchester Hospital."
