A beautiful clip from the USA of a giant ore boat leaving a dock at daybreak on Saturday and making its way through the ice of Lake Superior.

After finishing loading iron ore, the Indiana Harbor departed the CN docks in Two Harbors, Minnesota with its icy bows showing the reality of the harsh conditions near the end of shipping season.

After passing the lighthouse, the thousand-footer disappeared into the sea smoke like a ghost ship.

On a frigid morning (-20°F air temperature, -40°F windchill), the sea smoke over lake Superior was very dense as the lake continued its evaporative cooling. At daybreak, the Indiana Harbor had finished loading iron ore and departed the CN docks in Two Harbors, Minnesota. Its icy bow shows the reality of the harsh conditions near the end of shipping season. After passing the lighthouse, the thousand-footer disappeared into the sea smoke like a ghost ship.

The Indiana Harbor is a 1,000 foot long self-unloading bulk carrier owned by American Steamship Co. She transports iron ore, is capable of carrying 78850 tons, and is equipped with both bow and stern thrusters.

Sea smoke is formed by evaporative cooling when the frigid air passed over comparatively warmer open water.
