Baby Impala Lambs show Love and Affection

Buy video

Impala antelope are the most common antelope species in the Greater Kruger Park. Every year around early December, hundreds and thousands of baby impala lambs are born in roughly a four week period, all together. The youngsters then herd together in these breeding herds forming a crèche. More eyes and ears together in numbers for safety. Impala is on top of the menu for many predators including Lion, Leopard and African Wild Dog. Watching these little lambs together is always a heart-warming experience. In the video one can see how much love and affection there are for one another. The licking of one another is called allo-grooming. Cleaning and grooming one another in the hard to reach places. This behaviour strengthens the family bond and cohesion
