A cyclist clashes with the driver of a pickup truck after it passed close by him on a south-east London street.

In helmet-cam video captured by the cyclist on January 5, the cyclist is riding in the bus lane when he is forced to enter the regular lane of traffic because of roadworks.

But as he moves lanes, the 4x4 passes closely by him and the driver is so infuriated he punches the vehicle.

He gives the driver of the Ford Ranger the finger and shouts, "Yeah? C'mon then! F*****g c**t."

The driver then stops at a red light, allowing the cyclist to catch up.

The driver gets out of his car and approaches the cyclist, who says: "Are you stupid, mate? Did you not see that f*****g roadworks?"

The motorist responds: "(Don't) f*****g hit people's property, mate!"

The cyclist responds: "If you're driving close enough for me to hit your car, your driving like a c**t ... did you not see the roadworks?"

Another cyclist who witnessed the incident also stops to chime in: "Don't take chances with other people's lives!"

The driver says: "I would never have hit you" before getting back in his vehicle.

The cyclist adds: "Look at the size of your f*****g car! Slow down you p***k!"

As he overtakes the driver, he makes another rude gesture with his hand towards the driver.

The cyclist later wrote online that the 4x4 was "passed closely" by the pickup truck and that he hit the vehicle in response. According to him, the truck then brake checked before driving off.

The video was filmed on Evelyn Street in southeast London.
