Thousands of Starlings whizz by overhead.

I arrived at the starling roost site At Tarn Sike and set up my camera with wide angle Lens about 30 metres from the conifer plantation where the starlings were expected to roost in. I only had to wait for ten minuets when the starlings started to arrive in the sky twisting and turning above the conifer plantation. Then suddenly more large flocks of birds came from a northerly direction flying very low and fast. On reaching my position they were only a few metres above my head, so I could also hear the incredible sound of hundreds of wings as they rushed past like the sound of a passing car to join the friends at the roost. The huge flock of starlings mururmurated about a bit, before the all settled down deep in the trees chattering loudly with each other until darkness falls.
