Southwark Council Planning Committee defeated a motion to approve Delancey’s plan for redevelopment of the Elephant & Castle shopping centre and London College of Communication. The planning application was rejected by 3 votes in favour, 4 against and 1 abstention.
Earlier in the evening, hundreds of local residents, including councillors, traders, the Latin American community and LCC students, protesting their university’s complicity in the social cleansing of the area, marched from Elephant and Castle to Southwark Council, where the planning committee was to consider Delancey's massive redevelopment scheme.
