A queue of people clutching dogs and cats formed outside a Spanish church on Wednesday as eager pet owners waited for a priest to bless their furry companions.

A video filmed at a church in Madrid showed the priest sprinkling holy water on an array of different species and breeds.

The strange sight takes place every year on this day as part of the celebration of San Antonio Abad, who is considered by some in Spain to be the Patron Saint of animals.
