A massive double-tanker carrying 50,000 litres of fuel exploded next to Midvale, Utah, causing major highway closures and traffic delays on Thursday (18 January).

The vehicle was carrying 40,000 litres (9,000 gallons) of gas and 10,000 litres (1,000 gallons) of diesel.

Huge billows of smoke came out from the explosion provoking the closure of both North and Southbound of the Interstate 15 highway.

"It was a huge mushroom cloud of flames," wrote the filmer.

According to a local report, the driver of the truck escaped without injury and told police he believes his brakes caught fire, which led to the blaze.
