This funny incident was recorded in the Kruger National Park while on Safari. During the heat of the day we stopped at a waterhole to observe some animals. Among all the animals were this one huge old Elephant bull splashing himself with mud that eventually covered his whole body. They do this to cool themselves down and at the same time protect their skin from the harsh African sun. After his mud bath, this old giant started making his way slowly towards a stone structure that use to be an old sign post put up by the Kruger Park displaying the name of the waterhole. This sign post got a new purpose in this video.He realised that this sign post was the perfect height and continued to go stand right over it. The bull Elephant then proceeded to enjoy a good scratch of the belly.One could actually imagine the enjoyment and even relief this Elephant experienced wile rubbing his belly on the structure. They specifically do this after a mud bath. Once the mud baked for a bit, it becomes hard. All kinds of parasites and irritations on their skin then gets stuck in this hard baked mud. Elephants then mostly proceed to scratch off this mud to get rid of all their skin irritations. They mostly use trees or large boulders as rubbing posts. On this day the old sign post was the only real structure around in the vicinity and the perfect height.It was a great experience to witness Africa’s largest mammal going about his daily routine in such a comical manner.With no arms or hands to scratch yourself, ones got to do what ones got to do, even if it means using an old Kruger sign post.
