Anniversary - One of the most famous battles in the Second World War in Yugoslavia - Igmanski mars
One of the most famous battles in the Second World War in Yugoslavia
The Igman March is one of the most famous and most famous episodes of the period of the National Liberation Struggle and the unique operation of its kind in the world.
At the end of January 1942, after the clashes at Penjač and the White Walls, the First Proletarian Brigade on Romania was surrounded by powerful German forces. The headquarters of the First Proletarian Brigade held consultations in the village of Srijevići. The current situation is rated as very unpleasant for the brigade: the offensive of multiple-party enemies; a sudden outburst of domestic power rebellions; brigade, and incomplete (its fourth and sixth battalion, already abandoned this territory and were on the mountain Jahorina accompanied by the Supreme Staff), remained in the mountain swept by snow to the belt. A decision was made to execute a dangerous but only possible movement. It should have passed by Sarajevo, through Igman, towards the liberated Foca.
The march started a 500-strong column until January 25th. In two days they came to the Sarajevo Field. The hardest part was the beginning of the ascent on Igman. The passage through Igman was made in the night between January 27 and 28, after deep snow and great cold. This march becomes a legend, and forty hard-frozen fighters have been transferred to treatment in Foča, where they have submitted superhuman pains of amputation of fridge parts of the body without narcosis.
A group of monuments dedicated to the Igman March in Sarajevo was proclaimed a national monument of Bosnia
