Stray leopard jumps off tree, mauls stick-wielding forest rangers, villagers and creates panic in Indian village; still at large

A leopard that strayed into a village r in north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, has kept the villagers and the forest rangers on the tenterhooks since yesterday.

The incident happened in Abdullapur village of Saharanpur district where the leopard could be running from one place to another. The video shows the leopard atop a tree while villagers can be seen standing underneath the tree with sticks and batons, apparently to chase away or kill the animal.

The forest department officials have been trying to capture the big cat using darts and nets, but the animal has outsmarted them everytime they tried to capture him.

The villagers who are working in tandem with the rescue team were attacked by the leopard. Dramatic footage shows leopard mauling one of the villagers. In all, two people have been mauled so far. The leopard is still loitering in the village, running from one house to another and then the fields.

According to the forest department officials, they are facing problem in capturing because of the massive crowd of curious onlookers. However, they assured the villagers that the beast would be captuered before sun down today.
