Scene where Australian tourist was killed in bar room brawl
The scene today outside Ruby Club in Pattaya, Thailand, where an Australian tourist was killed in a bar room brawl.
Benjamin Robb, 42, had been eating with friends in Pattaya, Thailand, on Friday night when he became involved in a confrontation with a group of men including Jose Manuel Polanco Jr, 43, from New York.
The pair squared up before Jose allegedly punched him in the face, he threw him across the room and ''stomped on his head 10 to 15 times''.
Onlookers are said to have cheered and took pictures on their phones as the Australian man lay dying on the ground.
The American fled the scene after the incident at around 6.30pm but handed himself several hours later. He was pictured shirtless as police arrested him.
Benjamin was rushed to hospital but died in the early hours of Saturday morning caused by '' ''internal bleeding and severe facial damage as a result of sustained impact to his cranium and skull''.
Pattaya Police chief Colonel Apichai Krobphetch said that Polanco Jr was being held in custody and he would be charged over the incident. He claims he attacked the Australian in ''self-defence''.
Police Colonel Krobphetch said: ''The Australian man Benjamin Robb had been eating at the bar on the day he died. He was punched and knocked unconscious and fell to the ground.
''Mr Robb suffered bleeding on his brain. He died later from the injuries. Mr Polanco Jr escaped but later gave himself up and surrendered to police on the same day. The defendant will be charged with physical assault causing death. However, he claims that this was defence.
