SINKING YACHT IN THE NORTH SEA

Scottish pair trawlers Budding Rose and Lapwing were fishing in the North Sea 100 miles East of Shetland when they heard a yachtsmen faintly asking for assistance on their VHF radio .On speaking to the yachtsmen it became apparent that his yacht was taking water and he would need help .Budding Rose skipper Peter Bruce immediately contacted Shetland coastguard to inform them of the situation .Shetland rescue helicopter took off from Sumburgh Shetland and made for the yacht also at that time Budding Rose and Lapwing starting steaming to the yacht and also broadcast a mayday relay to inform other ships in the area .When the Budding Rose and Lapwing arrived on scene the rescue helicopter were lifting the yachtsmen off the Yacht because it was filling of water quickly After the Norwegian yachts were safely aboard the helicopter Budding Rose and Lapwing tried to save the yacht but it sunk after about 30 minutes
