School teacher shows US first graders how to play curling in school corridor

A first-grade teacher in South Carolina has taught her class how to play curling in the school corridor, even if her grasp of the rules is a little shaky!

In the video, filmed on February 15, two students take part in curling while the rest of the class watch on.

Writes teacher and filmer Katie: "I am a first-grade teacher at an elementary school in Greenville, South Carolina. I teach at a high poverty school, but you would never know it walking through the doors! I teach the cutest first graders you have ever seen.

"We are currently on day 4 of indoor recess, which to a six-year-old is complete torture. To spice things up a bit we've been watching the (Winter) Olympics. Today I had a brilliant stroke of genius - we could re-enact the Olympics right here in our classroom!

"The first event we held was curling. I snagged a soccer ball from our office and a broom from our custodial closet. I picked two students who felt they were the best athletes for the challenge, and they did not disappoint! I'll be honest: I STILL don't understand how curling works or how to score it, no matter how many times I've watched it!

"But the kiddos got the ball kind of on the bullseye, so that's good enough for me!"

Parental permission was obtained by the teacher/filmer.
