Three dragon dances and a human pyramid
This video captures the entry of a senior and junior dragon dance teams in one of the locations at Yaorawat road, Chinatown, Bangkok, during the celebrations of the Chinese new year 2018.
The entry is soon followed by the launch of the dragon dance by the senior team. As they finish and their dragon curls up on one side, the junior team, comprising of quite a few young boys and girls, gets on with a similar act.
At about 4 minute mark, we see the human pyramid starting to take shape. A very young boy carries an even smaller girl on his shoulder. An older man takes both kids on his shoulder and then, a strapping young man takes them all on his. Soon, everyone stands up on one top of the other, and we see the young brave girl, almost 15 feet above the girl, wave almost shyly to the crowds below, as they all take a full 360 degree turn.
As the crowd starts to express their appreciation to the youngsters by rewarding them with some money as gifts, at about 6 minute mark, we see the senior dragon dance team getting ready again. In the next minute, they launch again, into a fabulous dragon dance again.
The old buildings of Yaowarat road, the numerous stalls on both sides of the road, the hundreds of people milling about and the sounds of drums, crackers and clanging cymbals form the background for the above acts.
