Ostriches mate in front of tour guides in rarely seen footage captured last year.

In the video, filmed in the savannah in KwaZulu-Natal province, a male ostrich can be seen behind its female mate while shaking its feathers erratically.

Writes filmer Tim Brown: "This is the first time in 13 years of guiding that I was fortunate enough to witness this amazing act!"

Ostriches are one of very few birds to have a penis.

Brown, a Durban-based tour guide, says: "Ostriches being birds have what we call a cloaca and to put it bluntly, a cloaca is one hole for everything. So a male ostrich has an internal penis which needs to come out when he goes to the toilet or needs to mate!"

During one a recent Durban Tour while training one of our guides we came across Ostriches mating!
