American soldier attacked by Thai locals over ''fake Rolexes''
Footage shows an American soldier is attacked by a group of Thai locals he offended - after refusing to buy a fake watch.
The squaddie had been visiting the beach front resort to relax after recently attending the Cobra Gold military exercises - where soldiers drank snake blood.
But the man, seen wearing a white shirt, sparked anger and appeared to have difficulty handling the situation when he was approached by street hawkers selling fake Rolexes.
Police said the U.S. soldier refused to buy a time-piece, telling the sellers they were not authentic, which led to a mass brawl in front of shocked tourists.Footage from the busy scene shows the soldier throw a right hook and left jab knocking a Thai local to the ground - before a local jumps on him from behind.
The brawl then continues further down the road with more locals joining in before a policeman arrives to calm the situation.Police arrived and spoke to the soldier as well as the locals. The soldier was fined 1,000 (23gb) baht and the street seller was fined 5,000 baht (114gbp).
Lieutenant General Prathom Pong from Pattaya Police said: ''The police invited both parties to co-operate. The soldier said he had come to rest after taking part in the 37th Cobra Gold exercises. He said the men were selling counterfeit goods and he was punched in the face first. He said he then fought back for his own protection.A watch sellers friend then joined in the fight and another person. Police arrived and resolved the disturbance.''
