The Arctic Fox Vulpes lagopus is a small fox that is widely distributed throughout the Arctic. Their coat colour changes with the seasons - dark or patchily coloured in summer, and usually pure white in winter. Arctic Foxes are often found beneath cliffs with colonies of breeding birds, where they patrol the base of the cliffs, snatching fallen eggs or nestlings. Their prey is mostly cached to provide food during the lean winter months. This adult fox in its summer coat was patrolling beneath a cliff rookery of breeding Kittiwakes at Kapp Waldburg on Barentsøya. In this clip it took a break from patrolling and curled up for a snooze. On the stony scree at the foot of the cliff.
