No hammer needed. How to remove the snail out of the Conch Shell, Gregory Town, Eleuthera, Bahamas. We were lucky enough to have a local man show us how they remove the "Snail" out of the Conch shell. In this case he had 5 conchs tied together that he kept in the ocean near the dock. This way you always have fresh sea food. No hammer needed. The conch shells are like a rock, and if you happen to step on a discarted shell buried in the sand on the beach, you're feet will not be happy with you. Anyways, the local fisherman hammers away with another conch shell until they make a hole , then they stick a knife in the snail through the hole, and pull the seafood out. The locals prepare conch salads, conch fritter n cracked conch. My favorite is Conch Salads. i cannot get enough of them. yummy. So besides eating the snail, the shells make a beautiful decoration, The queen conch with its beautiful pink colors. Also the Helmet conch, which looks like a helmet, Aswell as lots of crafts are made from the shells, earrings, tree ornaments, whatever your imagination can create. We enjoyed a conch salad and cracked conch at Unca Gene's Restaurant on this day.
