A seal pup entangled in a fishing line got a helpful hand from a marine animal rescue team member and a few friends.

“This poor seal pup was spotted at our harbour with fishing line entangled around its neck,” the rescuer said. “I’m a part of a marine animal rescue team and got a couple of friends to help me out with the capture of the seal and removal of the line.”

“This first little pup took us four days to capture, as he would only rest on a tiny platform that was hard to access,” the rescuer continued. “Anytime he spotted us nearby, he'd slide into the water. We caught him in a deep sleep and my friends held him down while I cut the line. It took time to find the line since it was so tightly embedded into the poor pups neck. A nasty example of the hazards of ocean plastic pollution.”
