Pine marten siblings scrap over territory in surveillance footage

Two pine martens were caught on camera fighting in a dispute over territory in south-west Scotland.

The surveillance footage, captured on March 23 in Galloway forest park, shows two male martens biting and clinging to each other.

The filmer writes: ''This pine marten family has been living in Galloway forest park for over two years now.

''We've followed their every move, these two pine martens are 2017 kits, so about a year old.

''The kit on top of the other kit is named Cullen and he has been resident at this location since birth.''

''The other pine marten kit in the fight left the area a few months ago.

'This was the very first meeting of the male kits since he left to forge his own territory somewhere else.

''Cullen didn't take too kindly to his brother coming home, he didn't make him feel welcome.''

Pine martens are territorial and crepuscular animals- which means they are mainly active at night and dusk.

Extinct from most of England and Wales, pine martens last remaining UK stronghold is in Scotland.
