The Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus) is a common nectar, fruit and pollen-feeding species of parrot found in Australia. It mostly occurs along the eastern seaboard from South Australia to northern Queensland, but is now naturalised in south-western Australia, probably from aviary escapees.

Rainbow Lorikeets are one of the most brilliantly coloured birds in the world, and they have a brush-like end on their tongues to help them harvest nectar and pollen from flowers. They are often found in pairs, but also occur in noisy flocks, particularly when feeding.

Rainbow Lorikeets nest in hollows of tall trees, particularly eucalypts and palms. They will aggressively defend preferred nesting hollows, and even displace larger species of parrots interested in using the same hollow.

This bird was systematically collecting pollen and nectar from the flowers and buds of the Lemon-flowered Gum, Eucalyptus woodwardii.
