Male Yellow billed Hornbill preening and displaying

Buy video

The Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill (Tockus leucomelas) occurs in southern Africa. Pairs are usually monogamous and nest in tree hollows. The female seals herself into the nest with a barrier made of her droppings and food remains, while the male will bring mud for her to add to the wall. The male brings food for the females and the nestlings until the chicks are about half grown when the female breaks out to help the male. The chicks break out of when fledging occurs.

This male Hornbill was close to his mate and displayed to her then began to preen his feathers.
