Two monocled cobras got caught in a fishing net when they were mating at Jajpur Road, Odisha, India.

A fishing family saw the two deadly snakes ensnared in their net. They made a call to Snake Helpline, which sent a volunteer, Manibhadra Mallik, to rescue the snakes.

Mallik disentangled the snakes from the net with the help of local villagers.

He had to be very careful as the cobras had been entangled in the net very tightly. He had to patiently loosen the knots while taking care not to get bitten by the highly venomous reptiles.

The cobras had not suffered any injury and were released in their natural habitat near a water body.

Subhendu Mallik of Snake Helpline said the female will start laying eggs in about two months.

“Rescuing mating monocled cobras entangled in fishing net is a rare experience even for us,” he added.

Snake Helpline has rescued about 20 snakes since last month.
