A woman appeared to be arrested for blowing a plastic trumpet at a protest over tree felling in Sheffield.

Footage shows a police officer addressing a woman holding an orange plastic trumpet, warning her she "would be arrested" if she continues blowing the instrument.

The officer leaves and the woman blows the trumpet again, causing the officer to turn around and detain the woman.

Protests have been widespread after Sheffield council announced that thousands of trees will be felled as part of a road improvement contract with a private company.

But protesters claim the trees being removed are perfectly healthy and the measures are unnecessary.

Over 30 police are being taken off other duties to attend street tree felling in Sheffield. There are big peaceful protests because the felling is to meet a PFI contract target of 17,500 (half the city's street trees). The labour council tried to hide the contract until the ICO forced them to reveal some details.
The video is an example of the heavy handed policing being used to intimidate ordinary people at protests. The following day two ladies with a tambourine and recorder, one a vicar, were arrested.
MPs including Shadow policing minister and Michael Gove have called for felling to stop and for mediated talks.
