This video was recorded in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. It starts off with a female baboon approaching a male baboon. She presents herself to the male and he immediately proceeds to mount the female. The female gives a grunting copulatory call after a series of thrusts. She then proceeds to groom the male thoroughly and with great care. The male finds himself rotating into various comical and awkward positions during his pampering session. Female baboons can be very promiscuous and will mate up to 100 times with various males when they are on heat. When she reaches the peak of her oestrus, at which time she is most likely to conceive, she will only mate with a dominant male. Females consorting with highly preferred partners cooperate with efforts to herd them away from other males, and groom their favourites significantly more often than less-preferred partners. The male in this video is clearly the one and gets it all in one go.
