A diver in Florida has captured stunning footage swimming with a large alligator at the bottom of a lake in the Everglades' underwater jungle.

In the video, filmed in February this year, experienced diver Bartolomeo Bove approaches the alligator.

At one point his GoPro camera is inches away from the alligator's jaw before it suddenly scuttles away right in front of Bove.

He explains: "As a wildlife enthusiast and underwater videographer, one morning last February I took a dive into the underwater jungle of the Everglades to film the alligators and this is some of the footage that I shot with my GoPro.

"Although the water was pretty murky I could still get good close up shots of one of Florida's apex predators."
