Dozens of members of a radical pro-independence Catalan group took over part of a highway near Barcelona this afternoon (April 1), opening barriers at toll booths so motorists did not have to pay.

Video shows members of the Committee for the Defence of the Republic (CDR) covering security cameras with bin bags, removing barriers at tolls and waving motorists through.

Ex-Catalan regional president Carles Puigdemont was arrested in Germany last week and faces extradition to Spain on rebellion charges.

CDR (Committees for the Defence of the Republic) continue their pro independence protests in Catalonia, Spain. In the middle of Easter Holidays the pro Catalonia independence activists instead of cutting main roads decided to go to one of the main toll ways near Barcelona, covered the security cameras with plastic bags and opened the barriers so drivers did not had to pay the fee for using the highway. The action happened peacefully and with just few police officer observing and not intervening to stop them.
Since more Catalan politicians were jailed in Spain and the ex president of Catalonia in exile, Carles Puigdemont, was detained in Germany, pro independence protest have increased in the Spanish region since last week.
