The subantarctic island of South Georgia is a mecca for people interested in wildlife and spectacular polar scenery. South Georgia is mostly visited in summer by polar tourists travelling by ship, in this case One Ocean Expeditions in November 2015.

South Georgia has the largest rookeries of King Penguins on Earth, some of which contain hundreds of thousands of birds. The penguins are unafraid and will often approach visitors. The noise at penguin rookeries is a little overwhelming with the high-pitched whistles of the brown chicks combined with the ‘wah-wah’ calls of the adults. Rookeries are very smelly too!
