The subantarctic island of South Georgia is a mecca for people interested in wildlife and spectacular polar scenery. South Georgia is mostly visited in summer by polar tourists travelling by ship, in this case One Ocean Expeditions Akademik Ioffe in November 2015. South Georgia has the largest rookeries of King Penguins on Earth, some of which contain hundreds of thousands of birds. The penguins are unafraid and will often approach visitors. Huge Southern Elephant Seals and the pups called weaners are often lying amongst the hordes of penguins.
