A Thai woman was arrested after twerking in a pick-up truck while letting passers-by grope her breasts during the country's new year celebrations.

Nong Saen, 22, was seen dripping with water while dancing in the back of the vehicle as revellers groped her chest in Chainat, Thailand, last Friday afternoon (April 13).

Footage of the ''obscene act'' angered local police chiefs monitoring the country's annual songkran festival. They tracked down the young woman and she was arrested.

Nong Saen was fined 1,000 baht (about $32) for lewd behaviour while the driver of the pick-up truck paid a 500 baht fine for turning the bass up too loudly.

The young woman apologised for her seductive dancing for spoiling the image of the region and insisted she would not do it again.

She said: ''I did not expect that this would cause so many problems. I am not from this area. I just came here to have fun and play with friends.

''I climbed up onto the car and the woman in the video touching my breasts knows me, we were just joking.

''I apologise to the people in the province for harming the reputation of the area. This will not happen again.''

Police Colonel Chatpimuk Meemk, Superintendent of Chainat police station, said that screening points to catch troublemakers had been increased after the incident.

He said: ''Anyone found guilty of inappropriate behaviour will be prosecuted immediately.''
