At around 1:30am I heard screams from my bedroom window, at first I wasn’t too sure what I may be, so I proceeded to get ready for bed, but the screams were persistent. I looked out of my window and I saw heavy black smoke escaping an estate block opposite my apartment. My first instinct was to call the LFB and I ran to the location. By the time I had arrived 8 fire brigade trucks were zooming past. A fire engulfed a flat on the 13th floor of Leather Gardens on Abbey Road. Pedestrians could quite evidently see people still stuck inside the flat, trying to stay safe in one room but the fire kept spreading! 100’s of residents escaped the building, in fear that there would be a repeat incident of Grenfell towers. However the fire Marshall’s worked so quickly and tirelessly and the fire was out within 30 mins with no casualties.
