A group of safari tourists had the opportunity to witness the rare sight of a lioness hunting a waterbuck on daylight.

The footage shows the lioness charging and hunting down a waterbuck.

The lioness can then be seen hanging by the waterbuck's throat in an attempt to suffocate it.

The filmer writes: ''We had the rare opportunity to witness a lion hunt during broad daylight as the majority of lion hunts and kills occur during night time or in the early hours of the morning before sunrise.

''We came across a lone lioness and immediately noticed that she was extremely focused on something.

''The lioness was staring at a set of waterbuck horns sticking out the grass, barely fifteen meters away from her.

''After a while, the waterbuck male suddenly jumps up and starts running away from the lioness.

''Big mistake as this behaviour instinctively triggers the lioness to charge and hunt down the waterbuck from behind.

'' It was a sad day for the waterbuck but we were very fortunate to witness the circle of life in the African bush happening right in front of us.''

Majority of lion hunts and kills occur during night time or in the early hours of the morning before sunrise. We came across a lone lioness and immediately noticed that she was extremely focused on something. The video shows the lioness crouched in the long grass, very attentively staring at a set of waterbuck horns sticking out the grass, barely fifteen meters away from her. It was a big lone waterbuck male resting in the shade.
After a little stare down between the two animals, the waterbuck male suddenly jumps up and starts running away from the lioness. Big mistake. This behaviour instinctively triggers the lioness to charge and hunt down the waterbuck from behind. With the blink of an eye the lioness covered the distance between her and her prey. She jumps on his back and with brute force takes down her prey that weighs double her own weight. We decided to drive closer to witness the action from closer up but still a safe distance. The waterbuck was not going down without a fight and on numerous occasions he would get up with the lioness hanging by his throat, shaking in an attempt to get the lioness to let go of her grip on his throat. The lioness slowly suffocates the waterbuck and eventually turns him over. This was when the waterbuck gave a few more shakes of the head before it was all over. It was a sad day for the waterbuck but we were very fortunate to witness the circle of life in the African bush happening right in front of us.
